Most people first think of Utagawa Hiroshige when they hear “Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō” – a common perception among many. However, many are not aware that it was not only Hiroshige who had worked on Ukiyo-e of the Tōkaidō and that he has made many variation pieces of the Tōkaidō. The exhibition divides Hiroshige’s three of ten Tōkaidō series by post towns, in separate sessions: “Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō” (Kyōka Tōkaidō), “Tōkaidō Road” (Reisho Tōkaidō), and “Fifty-three Stations of Tōkaidō Road” (Gyōsho Tōkaidō).
