Police in Okinawa, southwestern Japan, have arrested a US Marine in connection with a fatal traffic accident.
The police arrested Private First Class Nicholas James MacLean for ramming his military vehicle into a small truck at an intersection in Naha City early on Sunday.
The Japanese driver died.
Eyewitness accounts and other evidence suggest that the military vehicle ran through a red light.
The police say a breath test indicated the Marine had an alcohol level that was 3 times the legal limit.
They say he has admitted hitting the small truck and driving while under the influence of alcohol.
