Famed Japanese music producer Komuro to retire over affair
Jiji -- Jan 20
Prominent Japanese music producer Tetsuya Komuro, who took the music world by storm in the 1990s, announced Friday his retirement, after allegations of an extramarital affair by a weekly magazine.

"I decided to retire to settle the scandal in my own way," Komuro, 59, said at a news conference the day after the Shukan Bunshun weekly broke the news of his affair in its latest edition.

Komuro married his wife, Keiko, the main vocalist of globe, a pop group of which he was also a member, in 2002. Keiko suffered subarachnoid hemorrhage in 2011 and is undergoing rehabilitation.

Komuro made his professional debut as a member of TM Network, a three-man band, in 1984.

In the 1990s, he was recognized as one of the most successful music producers and singer-songwriters in Japan, producing numerous blockbuster hits for popular singers including Namie Amuro.
