Suspect arrested in 7-year-old girl's death

May 15 (NHK) - Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the death of a 7-year-old girl in Niigata Prefecture.

They say while under questioning he admitted to being involved.

The body of Tamaki Omomo was found on train tracks on May 7th. Police suspected it was a homicide after determining she was strangled before being hit by a train. The girl had been missing since leaving school earlier in the day.

Police say the suspect's car was seen near the area where the girl's body was found. So far they've charged him with abandoning the body.
