Princess Aiko to attend British summer school

NHK has learned that preparations are being made for the16-year-old daughter of Crown Prince Naruhito to attend summer school in Britain.

Sources say Princess Aiko is planning to spend nearly three weeks in late July and early August at Eton College, a public school in the outskirts of London.

She is to board in a dormitory with other students to study British culture as well as ways to communicate in English.

The princess herself apparently made the decision to take the courses after learning that her parents wish her to become well-experienced.

This is the first time the teenage princess will be staying by herself overseas for an extended period.

The Crown Prince told reporters 2 years ago that he attaches importance to having his daughter go overseas to widen her horizons while she is young.
