US President Donald Trump says he raised the issue of abductions of Japanese nationals by North Korea in the summit meeting with the country's leader, Kim Jong Un.

He disclosed this at a news conference in Singapore on Tuesday.

Trump said the abductions issue is important to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

He added that the issue was not mentioned in the joint statement, but that it will be worked on.
