Jun 26 (NHK) - Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for fatally stabbing a well-known blogger in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan.
The 41-year-old victim Ken-ichiro Okamoto was stabbed to death after chairing a seminar on social media issues on Sunday night. He had been promoting the seminar on his blog.
42-year-old Hidemitsu Matsumoto turned himself in at a police box 3 hours after the killing. Police say he confessed to the murder and told them that he killed Okamoto because he was angry over online interactions with him.
Police believe the 2 men had never met before the fatal attack.
Investigators are trying to draw a definitive link between the suspect and his online identity.
He is believed to be responsible for a comment posted online after the attack. It says "I am no longer aggressive only online."
The post goes on to say that all those who have mocked him by calling "Mr. Stupid" are about to learn a lesson.
The suspect is also thought to have a long history of harassing people on the web, including the stabbing victim.
The victim operated a popular blog under the name Hagex. It provided updates on suspected troublemakers operating on certain websites and social media platforms. He wrote about the suspect's online activity last month.
