SoftBank: More than 10 million e-mails deleted

NHK -- Sep 22

Japan's major mobile phone carrier SoftBank says more than 10 million e-mails have been lost due to a faulty mail system.

SoftBank says the system mistakenly deleted about 10.3 million mails that used ".co.jp" as spam between 10:50 AM on Monday and 9:15 AM on Tuesday.

The deleted e-mails are part of SoftBank and its affiliate Ymobile e-mails.

SoftBank's system automatically blocks mail that it judges as spam and instantly deletes them before they reach the addressee's inbox.

The company says 4.36 million customers who use their spam filtering functions have been affected.

SoftBank says it found the problem after it received complaints from senders that their mails weren't received.

The company says it takes the problem seriously and will make every effort to prevent it from happening again.
