Horned owl spotted in Tokyo residential areas

NHK -- Feb 21

There have been several horned owl sightings in residential areas of Tokyo. Police are looking for the bird to protect it and prevent it from harming people.

Police say they have received eight reports of the species being seen in Suginami Ward since February 10.

Officers reviewed a video of a bird on a rooftop and confirmed it is a horned owl. It was also spotted on the balcony of an apartment building on Tuesday.

An NHK camera crew filmed an owl at an apartment building in the area on Wednesday.

Police say the bird appears to have no identification rings on its legs. They say that so far they have received no reports of human injuries.
