Apr 08 (NHK) - Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko have gone for a walk outside the Imperial Palace to take in the cherry blossoms.

The Imperial couple started their stroll at Kitahanebashi-mon gate early Sunday. They walked with their arms linked as they made their way to Inui-mon gate.

They were spotted by people jogging through the area, who looked surprised to see the couple.

The walk lasted around seven minutes. The Emperor and Empress smiled and waved before returning inside the palace.
