Jul 04 (NHK) - More than one million people in the southwestern Japanese region of Kyushu have been ordered to evacuate as continuing heavy rain may trigger mudslides or other threats.
In Kagoshima Prefecture, evacuation orders are in place for the cities of Kagoshima, Hioki, Kirishima, Ichikikushikino, Minamisatsuma, Aira, Tarumizu, Kanoya, and Minamikyushu as well as Osaki Town.
The orders are also in effect in neighboring Miyazaki Prefecture--- for Miyakonojo, and Kushima Cities.
Evacuation advisories have also been issued for parts of Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Kumamoto Prefectures.
Municipalities issue both advisories and orders when flooding or landslides are forecast. Orders are more urgent than advisories.
Those who find it more dangerous to move to a designated shelter should flee to a safer place nearby, or move to higher floors of buildings.
