Olympic torch relay in Greece to be suspended

Greece's Olympic committee says it will suspend the remainder of the Olympic torch relay through the country due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic torch relay started on Thursday in Olympia, and the flame passed through the town of Sparta on Friday.

But the committee announced the cancelation of the remaining stops because Friday's relay attracted unexpectedly high crowds, causing concern about the spread of the virus.

It said the handover of the flame to the Tokyo Games will take place as scheduled on March 19 in Athens.
