Strategic mistakes delay Japan's TPP seat
News On Japan via Yomiuri -- Jun 22
Canada and Mexico have been cleared to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations, but Japan has found itself shut out of talks on drafting crucial trade rules after a strategic failure that could be difficult to recover from.
The 11 official TPP participants are expected to accelerate the talks in the coming months.
The acceptance of Canada and Mexico into the TPP family was all the more staggering for Japan because all three nations had signaled in November their interest in taking part in the talks--but only Japan has yet to be accepted.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Canada will join the TPP negotiations, just a day after Mexico got the green light.
