A cargo ship carrying MV-22 Osprey transport aircraft has left San Diego bound probably for Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, where they will be offloaded before being deployed to Okinawa next month, the U.S. Marine Corps said Monday.
The ship is believed to have departed the U.S. Navy base carrying 12 of the tilt-rotor aircraft and is expected to arrive at Iwakuni later this month.
The United States plans to deploy 24 Ospreys to U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to replace aging CH-46 helicopters.
