The planned donation of two Chinese crested ibises to Japan is in doubt due to Beijing's reluctance to formalize the deal amid the growing territorial row between the two countries over the Senkaku Islands, bilateral sources said Monday.
Tokyo hoped to sign a memorandum for cooperation at an early date so it could receive the ibises by October after going through several procedures, including quarantine to counter bird flu, given that breeding between related birds has lowered resistance.
