M5.1 quake hits Ibaraki, Chiba prefectures

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 jolted Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures early Friday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
No tsunami warning was issued following the 2:22 a.m. quake that originated in the northeastern part of Chiba Prefecture at a depth of around 40 kilometers.
The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the southern part of Ibaraki, including Tsuchiura and Toride, and in a wide area of Chiba, such as Narita and Abiko, according to the agency.
