Lesser travelled places in Sri Lanka (May 12)
Hi, I am new to blogging so am not quite sure how to write but here goes... I love Sri Lanka, I first visited it last year and have already been back three times. It has so much to offer, beautiful scenery (great beaches, breathtaking hill country full of historical places), and culture, but most importantly the people are so special - friendly and so eager to help. Please would anyone who has been to Sri Lanka let me know their thoughts about the country. I would also love to hear of lesser travelled places to visit. from love2travel :D.

China, Japan and Thailand - cost of living and getting a job (May 12)
China is not expensive comparing to Japan.Usually the accommodation is around USD3-USD4/ninght for a dorm bed and around USD15-20/night for a normal single room, for the food I think USD 1- 2/meal is right enough for a solo traveler. And for the transportation, flights between cities is around USD70-USD150,but if you have much time and can bear long term train travel, train is a good way to save your money. Have a nice trip!.

Travel Locations with the most friendly people (May 12)
i could say that the Filipinos are very friendly and hospitable. when you visit the Philippines, the locals would really help you in every way they can. they are pretty approachable and they speak good English so you can easily understand each other. i heard from the show "Deal or No Deal Around the World" shown on NBC that they are the third largest English speaking country in the world and that's a big plus! :-).

Vietnam/Cambodia Visa - when to apply? (May 11)
Hi, does anyone know when I can apply for visas to Cambodia and Vietnam? We're travelling (from the UK) in August and can't find out whether we can apply now or not. We also need visas for China but their local consulate told us we can't apply for that till 3 months before we leave, so just want to check the same doesn't apply to the others (we need to post our stuff away for those ones as there's not a local embassy unfortunately). Thanks..

Taking Tibetan staples to the next level (May 11)
Before you post again, I would suggest you read the guidelines on advertising. This isn't just a description of Tibetan Food, it's a plug for a restaurant in Beijing, and therefore a violation of the advertising guidelines. :x.

30 day China itinerary - want input (May 11)
Hi Grant, Yes, there is 4 beds cabin. But this is not private bathroom in 4 beds cabin. You can get 50% discount if the hight of the kid is less than 1.2 meters.

some nice pictures of Hainan Island (May 11)

Was very impressed by how clean the streets were, and also by the seafood -- amazing! As for the beach itself, it smelled like Thailand, looked like Hawaii, and felt like a Russian resort..

What do you want to know about Taiwan?? (May 11)
I lived in Taichung for a few months back in 2006. Didn't have much time for travel, but some of the long-termers I met raved about the nature outside of the cities, where they could enjoy tubing, rock climbing, etc. I'd like to know more about the 'outdoor experience' possibilities!.

2008 Solar Eclipse in Mongolia (May 10)
Do you recall being asked to read the warning on advertising in the forums? It was here and nearly 3 years ago. The rules haven't changed..

Big trip in Asia. Any advice where to go ? (May 10)
My wife and her sister did China with guide for a few weeks and loved it.. their trip was more of a tourist thing than you seem to be looking for... but doing a guided trip for part might help you cover more ground. Her sister stayed on in india for three months and did some non profit work with a women's center and loved it. Their visas for china were a bit of a pain but not too bad. I was in south korea and japan a few years ago did just wandered around with a friend and had a blast. the big cities in those two countries are definitely easy for a foreigner to wander around. I really enjoyed the country side in south korea... the rice paddies and the hills were beautiful. If you want to meet locals you might try voulenteering with Habitat for Humanity or some other international group with local offices.
