KYUSHU, Jul 28 (News On Japan) - Three drones were spotted flying over the premises of Kyushu Electric Power’s Genkai Nuclear Power Plant in Saga Prefecture, prompting an alert to Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) on the night of July 26th.
According to the NRA, the flight was detected around 9 p.m., with three drones observed flying above the Genkai facility. Authorities issued a notification under the category of "nuclear material protection information with potential to affect the operation of nuclear facilities."
The drones had already left the area by the time of the report, and as of midnight on July 27th, no abnormalities had been found at the plant. There were no signs that the drones caused any damage or interfered with the facility’s equipment.
The origin and purpose of the drone flight remain unknown. Kyushu Electric is working with the Saga Prefectural Police to gather further information.
