In sumo, Ozeki champion Takakeisho has won the November grand tournament. It is his second victory and the first in the current rank.
Takakeisho, the sole leader with one loss, faced Terunofuji, his closest rival with two losses, on the last day of the tourney on Sunday.
Takakeisho lost to Terunofuji, prompting a playoff between the two wrestlers.
Later in the day, Takakeisho pushed out Terunofuji in the additional bout, clinching the Emperor's Cup.
Takakeisho marked the eighth straight win since the first day of the tournament before falling to Tobizaru on the ninth day.
Takakeisho was the only Ozeki who stayed in the tournament through the last day as the other two withdrew. The two Yokozuna also sat out the tourney.
Takakeisho once dropped from the second highest rank of Ozeki after suffering a right knee injury in May last year. He was also plagued with injuries after returning to the Ozeki ranking.
