Japan to raise daily entry cap to 5,000

NHK -- Nov 18

Japan will raise the limit on the number of people entering the country to around 5,000 a day from the current 3,500, starting November 26.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu on Thursday announced the revision of the entry cap that has been imposed as part of coronavirus measures.

He said the revision is based on the provision of quarantine systems and the implementation of anti-virus measures.

Matsuno said the government will respond flexibly if the coronavirus situation worsens, including the spread of a new variant.

But he added that it will continue to positively consider a further easing of the cap, depending on the infection and vaccination situation in Japan and abroad.
