Japanese universities down in global top 100 rankings

TOKYO, Oct 13 (NHK) - Top Japanese universities have fallen in global rankings compiled by a British journal.

The Times Higher Education's annual World University Rankings are based on performance indicators such as research content, number of citations in published works and international outlook.

In the latest rankings, the University of Tokyo is 39th, down four places from the previous year, while Kyoto University is at 68th, down seven.

By country and region, the largest number of institutions in the top 100 is 34, in the United States. China has seven, Hong Kong five, South Korea three, and Japan and Singapore two each. ...continue reading
