NAHA, Apr 21 (News On Japan) - A 72-year-old man died on April 18th in Itoman, Okinawa, after being caught in the waste inlet of a garbage collection truck while cleaning it.
The victim was Kiyomasa Oshiro, an executive of a waste collection company based in Taira, Tomigusuku City.
According to police, around 11 a.m. Oshiro was washing a garbage truck at the Itoyo Environmental Sanitation Center in Itoman when he was somehow pulled into the machine's waste intake.
A colleague became suspicious after hearing the machine running while water continued to flow from a hose and discovered Oshiro caught in the equipment. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene confirmed his death.
Oshiro was reportedly working alone at the time. Police are investigating the circumstances by reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence to determine the cause of the accident.
