HAMAMATSU, Jun 02 (News On Japan) - A man has been arrested on suspicion of unlicensed driving and other offenses after fleeing the scene of a car accident in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, where a vehicle plunged from a city road onto the Tōmei Expressway.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on June 1st, when a car driven by 47-year-old Akiya Kurebayashi veered off a local road in Hamamatsu's Chūō Ward and crashed onto the expressway's upbound lanes.
Police say Kurebayashi, an unemployed resident of Omaezaki in Shizuoka Prefecture who claims the name and address as his own, was driving without a valid license at the time of the accident. He allegedly left the scene without alerting authorities, despite the severity of the crash.
Two children—a boy and a girl—were also in the vehicle at the time but were unharmed.
The vehicle Kurebayashi was driving was registered under someone else’s name, and police are continuing their investigation to determine why he fled the scene and how he came to be driving the car.
