NAGOYA, Mar 05 (News On Japan) - Elementary school students in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, interacted with foreign tourists in English, introducing the city’s attractions and local culture.
The exchange program was organized by Tochio Elementary School in Takayama to help students develop practical English skills for their future studies.
On March 5th, 16 students from the fifth and sixth grades walked through popular sightseeing areas including the Jinya-mae Morning Market and Takayama’s historic streets, where they spoke with foreign tourists while promoting local highlights such as the traditional folk craft "Sarubobo," the Shinhotaka Ropeway, and the region’s hot springs.
The children greeted visitors with smiles, and the exchange concluded with tourists and students taking photos together and shaking hands, enjoying a warm and friendly interaction.
