HOKKAIDO, May 18 (News On Japan) - A soft drink vending machine caught fire late Saturday night in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, with no clear cause found in the surrounding area.
The fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. in the Chikabumi area of Asahikawa, after a resident reported seeing the vending machine ablaze. The machine, which was located next to a lumber company building, was severely scorched at the front. Firefighters and police arrived on the scene, with ten fire engines dispatched. It took approximately an hour and a half to fully extinguish the flames.
At the time of the incident, the company was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.
As there were no apparent sources of fire in the surrounding area, police and fire officials are currently investigating the cause of the blaze.
