TOKYO, Sep 05 (News On Japan) - Prince Hisahito, the eldest son of Crown Prince Akishino, will celebrate his 19th birthday on September 6th, when he formally marks his coming-of-age. On the eve of the milestone, the Imperial Household Agency released footage of Hisahito’s daily life at the University of Tsukuba, where he is currently enrolled.
The video shows him pedaling a bicycle through the tree-lined campus while wearing a black helmet. According to the agency, Hisahito, who studies in the Department of Biological Sciences, sometimes stays overnight at a nearby facility depending on his class schedule. His coursework includes field research, and in his free time he observes wildlife and plants in the campus greenery, taking part in a rich natural environment.
During the university’s dormitory festival, he joined friends in running a booth that sold baby castella cakes. He is also active in a badminton club, continuing an activity from high school, and has been broadening his friendships and interests.
While prioritizing academics, Hisahito also engages in activities as a member of the Imperial Family. On days without classes, he interacts with elementary and junior high school students in Okinawa. At the Akasaka Estate, he participates in rice and vegetable cultivation as well as ecological surveys of dragonflies and other species.
In preparation for the coming-of-age ceremony to be held on September 6th, Hisahito has been attending rehearsals at the Imperial Palace and receiving explanations from experts, reflecting his commitment to the traditions of the Imperial Household.
