OSAKA, Sep 22 (News On Japan) - A traffic safety class was held in Osaka’s Miyakojima Ward as police aim to reduce accidents, which typically rise from autumn through the end of the year.
At a local driving school, children practiced checking for safety before crossing pedestrian walkways while riding bicycles. One participant said, "I want to follow the rules so I don’t ignore traffic lights," while another added, "I’ll wait until the light turns green."
Parents took part by driving with goggles designed to simulate the effects of alcohol consumption, allowing them to experience firsthand the dangers of impaired driving.
According to Osaka police, more than 17,000 traffic accidents have occurred in the prefecture this year as of September 18th. Serious and fatal accidents caused by drunk driving are known to increase toward year-end. Authorities are urging pedestrians to take precautions, such as wearing reflective materials, to improve visibility and prevent further accidents.
