HOKKAIDO, Nov 03 (News On Japan) - A truck that had fallen into a river in the town of Okoppe on the Sea of Okhotsk side of Hokkaido was found on the morning of November 2nd, with the body of a man discovered inside.
Firefighters rescued one man from the vehicle, but he was confirmed dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as 75-year-old company employee Toru Uchida from Okoppe. According to police, Uchida had gone out on the night of November 1st to carry out maintenance work at a riverside park golf course and had been missing since.
On November 1st, due to a low-pressure system, Okoppe experienced heavy rainfall exceeding 80 millimeters through the following day, causing the river to swell. Authorities believe Uchida may have been caught in the rising waters and swept away when his truck fell into the river.
