TOKYO, Nov 13 (News On Japan) - A 54-year-old man has been arrested after throwing a traffic cone and a metal sign onto railway tracks near JR Oimachi Station in Tokyo, disrupting train services twice during the morning commute in September 2025.
According to police, Nobuaki Takasawa threw a traffic cone from a bridge near JR Oimachi Station in Shinagawa Ward onto the tracks of the Keihin-Tohoku Line around 5 a.m. Although the cone did not hit any trains, it forced services to halt for about 12 minutes, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Roughly 20 minutes later, Takasawa allegedly threw a metal “no bicycle parking” sign onto the Tokaido Line tracks, which struck a passing train. This second incident led to a 20-minute suspension of service.
Police officers surrounded Takasawa’s vehicle near the scene before taking him into custody. He was wearing a knit cap and a mask at the time of his arrest.
Takasawa has admitted to the allegations, telling investigators that he acted “out of frustration.” Police described his actions as extremely dangerous, noting that they could easily have caused a serious accident.
