Preview: 'She Taught Me Serendipity'

TOKYO, Mar 28 (News On Japan) - She Taught Me Serendipity is a poignant coming-of-age romance that explores how a chance meeting can change the trajectory of two young lives.

Toru Konishi, a quiet and unremarkable college student, is stuck in the monotony of everyday life, drifting through university with no clear sense of purpose. One day, he meets Hana Sakurada, a free-spirited classmate with her signature bun hairstyle and an infectious outlook on life. Drawn to her honesty and warmth, Toru finds himself slowly opening up as the two begin to spend more time together.

As their friendship deepens into something more, Hana shares her personal mantra: “I want to feel like every day is fun. I want to feel like today’s sky is my favorite.” Her words awaken something in Toru, inspiring him to view the world through a more hopeful lens. For the first time, he begins to understand what it means to truly feel alive.

But just as their bond strengthens, an unforeseen event threatens to tear them apart. Faced with a sudden twist of fate, the two must confront the fragility of life and the enduring power of connection.

Directed by Akiko Ohku (Tremble All You Want, Hold Me Back), She Taught Me Serendipity is a tender, introspective film about love, loss, and the beautiful unpredictability of life. With performances by Rikuto Hagiwara as Toru and Yumi Kawai as Hana, the film captures the subtle, fleeting moments that define young love—and how even a brief encounter can leave a lasting imprint on the heart.

She Taught Me Serendipity will open in theaters across Japan on April 25th.
