Shinkansen Services Boosted Ahead of Osaka-Kansai Expo

OSAKA, Apr 13 (News On Japan) - JR Central will increase the number of Tokaido Shinkansen services following the opening of Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, according to company president Shunsuke Niwa. Speaking on April 11th, Niwa said, "We will increase the number of trains as needed to ensure visitors reach the Expo site reliably."

In preparation for a rise in passenger traffic linked to the event, which opens on April 13th, JR Central has adjusted its timetable. The company plans to add special Nozomi services departing Tokyo around 6 a.m. on Saturdays and other high-demand days, depending on booking trends.

To better support international visitors, JR Central will also double the number of guidance staff for foreign passengers at Shin-Osaka Station from two to four in an effort to minimize confusion.

Additionally, the company plans to hold a panel discussion focused on the Linear Chuo Shinkansen project at the Expo site on May 21st, aiming to build momentum toward the maglev line's eventual launch.
