OSAKA, May 12 (News On Japan) - A total of 12,269 people from across Japan performed together in a massive marching band at the "Ring" venue of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, setting a new Guinness World Record.
The event took place on May 11th during "Brass Expo 2025," bringing together around 330 brass and marching band groups nationwide to attempt the record for the "largest marching band" performing simultaneously.
The previous record, also set in Osaka in 1997, involved 11,157 participants who had to march over 400 meters while playing music continuously for more than five minutes. This time, the performance began with the iconic American march "The Stars and Stripes Forever," followed by a heartfelt rendition of "Furusato" dedicated to the Noto Peninsula, which was impacted by a recent earthquake.
