Podium Finish for Local Driver in Revamped Women’s Formula Race

NAHA, May 13 (News On Japan) - The opening race of the Kyojo Cup, a women-only motorsport competition, was held on May 12th at Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka Prefecture, where Okinawa-born driver Ongane Miki claimed a podium finish.

Now in its ninth year, the Kyojo Cup introduced a dedicated formula car for the first time, replacing the sports cars previously used. In the final race, Ongane started in second position, maintaining her pace and holding off challengers from behind. However, she was unable to catch the pole-sitter Shimo, who dominated the race with overwhelming speed. Ongane ultimately finished in second place and stood on the podium, but showed signs of frustration after the race.

"I’m honestly very disappointed that I couldn’t battle for the lead this time," she said. "Next time, I want to deliver a close race and fight at the front to win."
