HYOGO, Oct 08 (News On Japan) - Two police officers from the Hyogo Prefectural Police have been arrested for possessing marijuana, admitting they kept it for personal use.
The suspects, a patrol officer from the Akashi Police Station, and a sergeant from the Fukiai Police Station. Both are accused of possessing marijuana at their respective homes in October.
According to investigators, police began probing Kato after receiving a tip that he possessed marijuana, which later led to the discovery. The two reportedly knew each other from about two years ago when they were both assigned to the community affairs division of the Akashi Station.
In questioning, both men have admitted to the allegations, saying they possessed the marijuana for their own use. Police are continuing their investigation into how the two obtained the drug.
The Hyogo Prefectural Police said this latest case brings the number of arrests within the force this year to five, adding in a statement, "We find it extremely regrettable that police officers themselves have been arrested, and we will respond strictly to the matter."
