OSAKA, Oct 13 (News On Japan) - A 26-year-old man died after being run over by a traditional yagura float during a procession in the Okada district of Sennan, Osaka, on the morning of October 11, with emergency services receiving a call shortly after 7 a.m. reporting that he had been struck by the wheels during the local Yagura Festival.
Police identified the victim as Kaito Takahashi, a Sennan resident, who was transported to a hospital but later pronounced dead from severe injuries to his head, abdomen, and other parts of his body. According to investigators, Takahashi was among roughly 30 people pulling the float when he attempted to run ahead of it, lost his balance, and fell beneath the wheels. The group Takahashi belonged to cancelled their scheduled procession for the day, though the festival was initially planned to run over two days on October 11 and 12.
