HYOGO, Nov 04 (News On Japan) - A police officer responding to a traffic accident in Hyogo Prefecture died after falling from a bridge on November 3rd in Nishinomiya City, with authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to police, at around 8:40 a.m. in Nishinomiya, a male inspector assigned to the Nishinomiya Police Station was handling a traffic accident scene on a national highway when he apparently attempted to retrieve paperwork that had been blown away by strong wind, climbed over the guardrail of a bridge approximately 14 meters high, and accidentally fell.
The inspector had been at the scene since around 8:30 a.m., and after falling, was rescued by firefighters about 30 minutes later and transported to a hospital, but he suffered severe bodily trauma and was confirmed dead.
The location is roughly 400 meters south of JR Nishinomiya Station, and police are continuing to examine the details leading up to the fall.
