NAGOYA - Ticket sales for the Asian Games are gathering pace with less than two weeks until the competition begins, with more than 60% of tickets sold for the opening ceremony and 31 sports as of September 7, although organizers say seats remain readily available for events including soccer and baseball.

Table tennis and volleyball are among the sports recording particularly strong ticket sales.

Demand has been weaker, however, for the closing ceremony and for competitions being held outside Aichi Prefecture, including events in Gifu and Shizuoka prefectures.

Ticket sales have also been relatively low for baseball and soccer, which are being staged at large-capacity venues.

Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura urged more spectators to attend the events in person. "We hope as many people as possible will come to the venues and enjoy watching these athletes compete seriously against each other," Omura said on September 8.

Organizers will also release several thousand additional tickets for the opening ceremony from September 8 after finalizing plans for the ceremony's production and staging.
