Cruise Ship Arrives at Nagoya Port to House Asian Games Athletes

NAGOYA - A cruise ship that will serve as an accommodation base for athletes and other participants in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games arrived at Nagoya Port on September 15, ahead of the opening of the competition this week.

A commemorative event was held to mark the ship's arrival.

Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura, chairman of the organizing committee, said the use of a cruise ship as accommodation is a first for an international sporting event held in Japan. "Together with this new accommodation model, we want to showcase the attractions of Aichi and Nagoya," he said.

The vessel is the Costa Serena, operated by an Italian company.

In addition to guest rooms, the ship is equipped with restaurants and fitness facilities.

The ship is expected to accommodate a total of about 4,000 stays by athletes and other participants from September 16 through October 6.
