Jun 21 (getconnected.aero) - Japan Airlines (JAL) is now providing free inflight connectivity throughout the entire flight to customers flying on domestic routes.
JAL originally launched its inflight internet in July 2014 as a paid-for service, but will now offer it free of charge.
Inflight video programmes, such as sports, cooking, music and cartoons, are also available for free on Wi-Fi equipped flights, and can be streamed on customers' own Wi-Fi devices.
The inflight connectivity service is available on all JAL and JTA (Japan Transocean Air, a subsidiary of the JAL Group) domestic routes operated by Wi-Fi equipped aircraft.
It says the free internet service is not available for international aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi, which are operated on selected domestic routes
A "FREE FLIGHT PASS" button appears on the portal page after customers connect to the inflight Wi-Fi on applicable flights.
The inflight connectivity service, provided by a Gogo Ku-band satellite system, is available from five minutes after take-off until five minutes before landing.
Gogo's inflight connectivity service went live onboard Japan Airlines in June 2014.
