ANA decorates plane for Tokyo Olympics

Jan 29 (NHK) - All Nippon Airways has decorated one of its planes for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

The Boeing 777 aircraft, named the "Hello 2020 Jet", was displayed at Tokyo's Haneda Airport on Sunday.

The Vice Director General of the organizing committee of the Tokyo games, Masaaki Komiya, said he wants the plane to be a messenger conveying the excitement of the Olympics.

The Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree, as well as images of Olympic and Paralympic sports, such as swimming, baseball, and wheelchair basketball, are painted on the fuselage.

The official emblems of the games are also printed on the plane's seats and the aprons that will be worn by the flight attendants.

Nearly 800 designs were submitted to ANA in a public competition.

The winner, Asahi Matsumoto, is a 16-year-old high school student from Kobe City.

Matsumoto said he is grateful that the decorated jet looks just like his design, and he wants the athletes to work hard to win gold medals.

The plane will leave Haneda for Fukuoka at 8:20 AM on Monday. It will also be used for domestic flights during the 2020 Games.
