Japan's Premium Mangoes Hit Market with 100,000 Yen Price Tag

FUKUOKA, Apr 17 (News On Japan) - Sales of Miyazaki Prefecture’s signature fully ripe mangoes, branded as "Taiyo no Tamago" or "Egg of the Sun," officially began on April 17th, with auctions taking place in Fukuoka City.

At the Central Wholesale Market in Fukuoka’s Higashi Ward, a promotional event was held prior to the mango auction, where participants sampled the fruit. One taster commented, "Amazing, delicious—truly a Japanese brand."

Taiyo no Tamago mangoes are a premium brand that must meet strict standards for sugar content and weight. On April 17th, two sets of 4L-sized mangoes, each containing two fruits, were auctioned and both fetched 100,000 yen—the same price as last year.

Yoshinori Hirashima, deputy union chief of JA Miyazaki, commented: "Although shipments are slightly delayed this year due to unstable weather, the mangoes have developed exceptional sweetness. We hope many people will enjoy them."

The nationwide sale of Taiyo no Tamago mangoes began on April 17th, with the shipping peak expected from late May through early June.
