NAGOYA, May 09 (News On Japan) - Meitetsu has announced that it will introduce new train cars on its Toyota Line for the first time in 48 years. Starting next fiscal year, the new 500-series trains will operate on the sections shared by the Toyota Line, Inuyama Line, and the Nagoya City Subway's Tsurumai Line.
Each car will be equipped with four security cameras, and the new trains are expected to consume 35% less electricity compared to current models.
This will be the first upgrade to the Toyota Line's rolling stock in nearly half a century, replacing aging trains currently in operation.
In a separate announcement on May 8th, Meitetsu reported its consolidated financial results for the year ending in March, with revenue rising 14.9% from the previous year to 690.7 billion yen and net profit increasing 54.6% to a record 37.7 billion yen.
The strong performance was driven by fare hikes and profits from recent acquisitions.
