GIFU, May 10 (News On Japan) - Gifu’s Norikura Skyline is set to reopen on May 15th, and in preparation, a bus company in Takayama City conducted a trial run of the shuttle buses that carry visitors to Mount Norikura.
The test run is an annual safety measure to ensure accident-free operations during the shuttle bus season. On May 9th, seven newly trained drivers drove the route from Honoki-daira, the departure point, to Tatamidaira at the mountain’s summit.
This marks the first May opening in three years, following a road collapse caused by heavy rain. Along the route, snow still lingers in some sections, forming walls as high as six meters.
During the test run, drivers reviewed key safety points for the season, as well as mountain names and guiding tips related to the Northern Alps.
The Norikura Skyline is scheduled to officially open on May 15th.
