IWATE, Nov 09 (News On Japan) - A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the Sanriku coast at around 5:03 p.m. on November 9th, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency to issue a tsunami advisory for Iwate Prefecture at 5:12 p.m. Authorities warned that tsunami waves may have already reached coastal areas.
Residents and those near the sea were urged to move away from the coast and avoid entering the water, as conditions in the ocean and along the shoreline remain extremely dangerous.
