One in Four Workers Anxious About Workplace Digitalization

TOKYO, Nov 15 (News On Japan) - While many employees welcome the shift toward digitalization for making work more efficient, others express concern that it could eventually threaten their jobs.

A recent survey conducted by En Japan, which operates one of Japan’s largest temporary staffing information platforms, examined attitudes toward workplace digitalization. According to the results, 66% of respondents said they felt digitalization was advancing at their workplaces, citing growing adoption of paperless systems, online meetings, and chat tools.

At the same time, one in four respondents said they felt anxious about the trend. Common concerns included having to learn more new tools, fewer opportunities for face-to-face interaction, and fears that improved efficiency could lead to a decline in available work—particularly among temporary staff.

En Japan commented on the findings, saying that rather than treating the introduction of digital tools as the endpoint, companies should adopt a “companion-style” approach, providing ongoing support that stays close to employees’ needs.
