TOKYO, May 23 (News On Japan) - Japan’s consumer inflation continued its upward trajectory in April, marking the 44th consecutive month of increase, with rice in particular climbing 98.4% year-on-year.
According to data released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on May 23rd, the nationwide Consumer Price Index excluding volatile fresh food rose 3.5% from a year earlier, reaching 110.9. The increase was mainly driven by higher prices for food and utility services. Among food items, rice saw a particularly steep rise, with prices climbing 98.4% year-on-year. This marks the seventh consecutive month that rice has posted a record-high growth rate.
