TOKYO, Mar 03 (News On Japan) - All Nippon Airways held a press conference to announce a change in leadership, with Executive Vice President Hisaichi Hirasawa set to assume the role of president on April 1st, stating that sweeping reforms to the airline’s struggling domestic operations are urgently needed as profitability continues to deteriorate.
Hirasawa said reforming the domestic business is an “urgent task,” as earnings from domestic routes have worsened amid rising costs and shifting demand. To curb expenses and improve profit margins, ANA plans to introduce smaller aircraft and strengthen operational cooperation with Japan Airlines at regional airports.
The collaboration with Japan Airlines is expected to focus on sharing certain ground operations and improving efficiency at local airports, aiming to reduce costs while maintaining service levels.
Current President Shinichi Inoue will step down from the top post and assume the role of special advisor at parent company ANA Holdings.
