SoftBank Plans Massive Retail Bond Sale to Fund AI Investment

TOKYO - SoftBank Group announced on August 24 that it will issue 1 trillion yen in unsecured corporate bonds for individual investors, in what is set to be its largest such offering.

The bonds will have a maturity of seven years, with an annual interest rate expected to range from about 4.3% to 4.9%. The final rate will be determined on September 4.

SoftBank Group said part of the proceeds will be used to redeem 400 billion yen in existing corporate bonds.

The remaining funds will be allocated to investments including artificial intelligence, an area the company has identified as a major strategic focus.
