HYOGO, Sep 28 (News On Japan) - The harvest of Tamba chestnuts, a hallmark of autumn in Hyogo Prefecture, has reached its peak in Tamba Sasayama, where the prized Gin-yose variety is now being collected.
Farmers can be seen carefully gathering spiny chestnut burrs that have fallen to the ground. The Gin-yose chestnut, nurtured in the Tamba region with its wide temperature differences between day and night, is prized for its large size, glossy appearance, and strong sweetness.
Although this year’s crop is slightly smaller than usual due to water shortages caused by the summer heat, growers report that the quality remains high and the overall yield is good.
