Curry Rice Price Falls Below 350 Yen

TOKYO - The cost of making a serving of curry rice at home in Japan fell below 350 yen in July for the first time in 11 months, helped by declining rice prices, according to Teikoku Databank.

The research company's "curry rice price," calculated from the cost of ingredients, utilities and other expenses needed to prepare the dish at home, stood at 349 yen per serving in July.

That was down 2 yen from June, with the decline attributed mainly to lower rice prices.

The figure was just 1.5% higher than in July 2025, bringing the cost of the popular dish close to its level a year earlier.

Teikoku Databank expects the curry rice price for August to fall from the same month a year earlier, which would mark the first year-on-year decline in about four years.
